Issues regarding the creation of multiple layout drawings!

Hi everyone, first I’d like to tell you that as I write this issue I know that someone maybe has requested help on this issue before but this is my first time visiting the forum so I’m a little bit lost on how to find answers to this issue. I hope someone can help me find a solution to this.

To give you some context, I’m in the process of creating a facade with panels for a building and the time to make technical drawings it’s getting close. As it is a big project, the overall model size is 8GB and working on it has become an issue I’ve managed to solve with some tricks so far. Right now I’m in the process of finding a workflow that allows me to both work on the model and be able to create the technical drawings that I’ll need in the near future.

I tried three different ways to create the drawings: Using the native views on Rhino, using the section tools, and using Make2d with clipping planes. These are the results:

When I made these trials, the workflow that worked the best was using the section tools, but back then the project was only in the schematic stage, with projections of a basic structure:

Then we made the panels and everything changed. The vast amount of geometry (about 1400 solid panels, each with an average of 300 perforations and flaps) makes it imposible to use any of the workflow options disclosed as Rhino just stops working. On top of it, the panels that we made are an optimized version, with less details that are not fit for a production process (less perforations, no screws, etc), and there is more geometry to be shown.

If anyone has had this same issue and it has been disclosed before in this or any other forum, I would really appreciate if someone could re-direct me to it. Otherwise, I would be glad to see if someone can give me a hand with this with their own experience.

Thank you for your help, I’ll be waiting for an answer.

8gb seems rather large for such a project.

Are you using worksessions?

1400 Unique Panels is not a lot. There are a number ways to optimize this but each aspect does require more detail on your experience and requirements.

What is your Rhino SystemInfo?

I actually tried to use worksessions as a means to subdivide the whole project into specific segments, but when I try to attach the panels rhino just closes.

About the SystemInfo: ¿Is this the information you require?

Can you run the Audit command in the large files and post the result?

Are you looking to do drawings on just on the panels or the entire building? What is the desired outcome? (you have rendering and engineering plugins…)

Can you provide steps to repeat the closure? Thanks

Sorry for the delay. Unfortunately I’m not able to share the documents due to an NDA, the only image I was able to send was the image shown in the original post.

On the other hand, the specific desired outcome is a PDF file with all the technical information about the project:

General plans, general elevations, general sections, specific constructive details, details about the panels, renders of the project and axonometric views.

These are the results of the Audit command:

There isn’t anything jumping out in the audit, are the objects high resolution? The combination of low & high resolution drawings can be challenging if you are working with a single representation of an object. 8 gb still seems really high considering the info provided and the objectives. Are the file tolerances really high? (.00001 mm for example)

This would be the absolute tolerance values:

Now, I think the issue may be due to the fact that the panels are meshes, not polysurfaces. Then again, I’m not that expecienced in Rhino to know if that statement is true, however, I reviewed again the properties of the panels, and I think the issue could be related with the amount of geometry each panel has:

This is how the geometry of the panels look:

¿Do you think that could be the case?
