Is Octane for Rhino still alive?

Got it - sorry, I will get to it today or tomorrow.

I can see that writing a wrapper for a renderer is an enormous piece of work.
How is the development funded? Do you get a % of rhino+octane sales?
Personally I’ve found the Octane+Rhino workflow to be quite immature, and I’d love to see it developed further, and I hope that you have all the resources to do that.

If you could be more specific in what you think is lacking, I can add it to the TODO list.

Hi Paul,

I have a couple of questions about development:

  1. I saw yesterday that users of Octane 2020.1 are seeing a 15x speed bump with RTX?!

Do you know when you’ll be releasing the first 2020.x builds for Rhino? We’d love to try this.

  1. When we are working with Grasshopper generated models (not baked yet, just interactive previews of the GH solution) we have to use either viewport shaders or Vray, since there is no Grasshopper integration with Octane AFAIK. Is that effort anywhere in your roadmap?

Thx!

Hopefully in the next week.

I don’t fully fully understand what you are trying to do here. However, there are two potential elements to this: 1) Getting the GH geometry - which is possible in Rhino6, but not yet implemented in the plugin. And 2) Rendering in the Rhino preview window with Octane (as Cycles does). I have this 90% complete, but it is taking some time to resolve the final problems.

If you could send me a sample grasshopper file which you would like to use in the above situation, together with a description of your desired workflow, I can take a closer look.
