Is .NET 9 coming to Rhino 9

I’m just curious what the Rhino roadmap looks like as it relates to the .NET 9+ framework. There appears to be some performance improvements, and I’m just wondering if when Rhino 9 releases do you plan to update to .NET 9?

Hi Jason -

My SystemInfo says the following:

Rhino 9 SR0 2025-12-17 (Rhino WIP, 9.0.25351.00305, Git hash:master @ f5cde5772ec1bb4d44815fa9495de2e45020e32b)
License type: Commercial, build 2025-12-17
License details: Cloud Zoo
Expires on: 2026-01-31

Windows 10 (10.0.19045 SR0.0) or greater (Physical RAM: 16GB)
.NET 9.0.1

Are you seeing something else than .NET 9.0.1 on your end?

Thanks! I was asking because I thought I had read that we shouldn’t compile against a framework newer than .Net 7.

If you are saying it should be fine, then I will start looking into that.

As long as you target the same version as, or lower than Rhino, you’ll be good to go. You can also target 7,8,9 and/or 10 and Rhino will use whichever one it’s running in, or the highest.

Also note the recent service releases of Rhino 8 have switched over from .NET 7 to .NET 8.
