iRhino with Apple Vision Pro

Has anyone tried irhino with the apple vision pro glasses?

iRhino is not available for Vision Pro

Is there a date for when IRhino will be available and supported?

No; sorry we havenā€™t investigated what it would take to support this device yet.

It would be a good idea to view the models with AR within the app with transparent glasses, for construction inspection or construction layout.

Sure, but the cost of the device makes virtually anything a non-starter at this point, itā€™s just a toy.

I would say for now, yes, but the two reviewerā€™s opinions I trust (Casey Neistat and MKBHD) seem to indicate that this is the worst AV Pro Apple will release. As in, this is the heaviest, most expensive (hopefully), laggiest, narrowest FOV, least popular headset they would make, simply becauseā€”whether we like it or notā€”they seem set on bringing about a tech future akin to that in Ready Player One.

Personally, Iā€™d like to develop CAD in 3D like in Iron Man, just because it doesnā€™t make sense to me that we should ā€˜settleā€™ on using a 2D mouse/keyboard workflow as the most efficient method of creating 3D CAD models.

I get the arguments that precise work requires a precise pointing device and nobody wants to have to lift their arms all day, etc. Itā€™s just that, surely, surely this isnā€™t the best we can do?

Soā€¦ where you speak and the AI do the drawing? We might get thereā€¦ unrelatedly to VR or not.

You are right. Absolutely right! I agree!
But you need to find/create an alternative and prove it is ā€œbetterā€, and explain how/why it is so.
In the mean time, I canā€™t stress enough: try a 3d mouse. (3dconnexion with Rhino make wonders)

:upside_down_face:?
ā€¦ anybody is free to prove anything.
I think exactly as you said: being productive require a free head, stress-less, arms comfortable put on a desk, etc etcā€¦ if you think staying with a weight on your head, isolated from the environment, with arms lifted, can be a ā€œbetterā€ (better how? why?) solutionā€¦ ok! Go for it! Please prove me wrong! I and others will try it too!

In the meantime hardware manufacturers should at least unify the standards!
Currently:
Facebook(Meta) try hard to make any piece of software closed for itself.
Sony made a good VR but strictly tied to a gaming console, that will again be forgotten in a couple of years (or it is already after first day of sale).
Appleā€¦ letā€™s not even talk about that, they hate standards and hate to even think about it.

Maybe Iā€™m wrong, this is just my opinion, but if a software house like McNeel will ever consider developing an app/plugin compatible for a VR, I expect they would aim towards an environment that is accessible and would push more sales for its software, Rhino.
Developing an app for the current market of affordable/accessible VR headsets like Oculus(Meta) and Valve and other gaming VR headsets would indeed make sense, as in that field actually there is a sort of common standard. Any effort in developing an app could take advantage of the modestly diffused compatible hardware!

Instead, why would a software house develop an app for a extremely expensive gimmick headset with closed standards and little market diffusion like the Apple VR?
How many Apple VR will be sold? How many of those will be used by an user that might be interested in Rhino?

Instead.

How many cheap/accessible Windows VR headsets already exists? Add to that the future headsets that will likely have a common standard base. It make WAY more sense to develop for those.

Itā€™s not because Apple came (late) into the VR field that now every software house is going to invest time and money to go in their closed platform.
Totally unlikely.
If it could be profitable, it would be already happened!
VR headsets already exist since yearS!

After seeing jigspace demos, I am puzzled as to why McNeel has not investigated porting iRhino to Vision Pro when they already added AR mode.

Iā€™m curious how would you use iRhino if we had a Vision Pro build. What functionality would be useful to you?

Visualization of 3D models at full scale would be a start. So much more efficient to start in AR than the added expense of building real models. Also a huge way to stand out when presenting your work as a designer to get stakeholders excited.

I have pretty much had this same need in every industry I have worked in (consumer products, furniture, heavy machinery and automotive).

Just to echo Sergio, near term, to have iRhino default to the AR view so I can drop models onto my desk and see them at scale, turn on/off layers, etc. Longer term it would be awesome to use the virtual screen feature to run Rhino on my Mac but have iRhino create a live model that updates as I work.

Thatā€™s an interesting thought. I wonder if a Vision Pro app can interface with Rhino running on your Mac. Weā€™ll need to investigate

Iā€™m in no way a developer but it looks possible?

Building a Custom Peer-to-Peer Protocol

Also Iā€™m in Seattle if you ever want to play with the hardware to try something out!

Thanks for the offer. Iā€™m going to demo it next week and try to find out if itā€™s gonna work for us.

Just saw Shapr3D is doing something similar!

Is there any plan to integrate irhino with apple vision or not yet?

No plans yet, I want to see how Vision Pro matures as a product before spending a ton of time building for it.
