iRhino WIP Available

The library that we currently use for step does not have an iOS implementation. We asked the library vendors a while ago for this. We can try asking again

I understand. The ability to import .step files would be huge, as this is the standard in many industries. Lets see what the vendors can do.

4 posts were split to a new topic: Object Capture without Lidar

I finally got my hands on a LiDAR Ipad and my first test with iRhino was in lowlight conditions in a room without much pattern differentiation between surfaces/textiles and I was really impressed with how accurately and quickly the room scan worked.

Not to mention the ease of use and navigation of the UX in the app itself.

This app in my mind is filling and has the potential to fill many additional gaps in toolsets in the AEC space and the ability for the it to already create the dimensions and layer structure of classified objects is amazing!

Iā€™ll field verify dimensions of course but getting a pretty accurate base model as a starting point is really wonderful and will save a lot of time.

Thanks for your work on this, Iā€™ll test further and report anything to the appropriate threads on the topic.

Is there a way to link irhino3D to Desktop. Trying to work with a workflow that would speed up the process for 3D scanning purposes?

Hi @Oswaldo_Veliz Iā€™ve not tried this but can you save/export the .3dm fro iRhino to a cloud folder like google drive or one drive (from your mobile/irhino scanning device) and then use Rhino worksession on the desktop to link that file into your desktop app?

What exactly do you mean by link?

What @michaelvollrath suggested would work. You can also setup a network drive if youā€™re on a LAN.

If youā€™re using Rhino for Mac, you can also copy paste scanned geometry using Appleā€™s universal clipboard.

Anyone tried the ā€œcollaborateā€ option for sharing a 3DM file from iCloud Drive?

What were the results?

Specifically, when someone clicks the link they receive in iMessage, does it go straight into iRhino?

What happens next time they open iRhino? Can they find the same file? Or do they have to find the original message and go from there?

EDIT: Oh, and I guess they need editing capabilities for me to be able to see the markups in Rhino on my desktop? Thatā€™s going to be interestingā€¦ what if I have that file open on my PC while they are creating markups? Will I just overwrite their changes?

Iā€™m fairly convinced that the follow-up questions from my boss will be these:

  1. When I click on something how do I hide it? (I see only ā€œinspectā€ in the pop up menu, which appears to be ā€œisolateā€, ie the opposite.)
  2. How do I create a section view? (I have a layer with clipping plane objects already, but seems you canā€™t move them or enable/disable the view clipping in iRhino?)

If Bob says its free its free everyone screenshot!! :joy:

I hadnā€™t even discovered this option. I need to investigate, but my guess is that it works like sharing a Google Drive or Dropbox link with someone. Iā€™m 100% sure you wonā€™t be seeing markups/changes made by others while you have the file open. You probably will after the file is saved by the other user and reopened by you.

Thank you for the reply.

How about the question about the clipping planes? Can you enable or disable them in the iRhino GUI?

(The workaround I guess, is to use the new Gumball and just move them away.)

Itā€™s been requested before but not yet implemented. Iā€™ll bump it up on my list
