IFC Import BETA for BEAM Now Available

BEAM IFC IMPORT Beta :earth_americas: :earth_africa: :earth_asia:

We’ve released the BETA version of the IFC Import feature for BEAM in Rhino. This feature allows importing IFC files either as Worksession references or directly into the Rhino document. It’s compatible with both IFC2x3 and IFC4 formats and includes full organization of IFC data within the BEAM panel.

During the BETA phase, there are no limits on the number of objects imported, so you can test it with projects of any scale.

Key Features:

  • Import IFC files as Worksession or directly into Rhino.
  • Support for both IFC2x3 and IFC4 formats. (Import-Export)
  • Organized data visualization within the BEAM panel.

First of all, great job! I often need to do a lot of IFC imports, and this tool would have saved me so much time!

Some parts are multithreaded and use very little memory, which is crucial for handling large files. However, the process of creating element types takes a very long time for me. I’m not exactly sure what it does, but if you could make it optional or improve its performance, that would be fantastic.

I actually bought VisualARQ solely for this purpose. At the time, it was the best option available, and it still does a few things better than BEAM currently. For instance, it provides NURBS output. I would be incredibly grateful if you could implement NURBS output (preferably with extrusions).

Other than that, everything looks great. The layers are well-organized, and the meshes are very clean. It’s exceptional for a beta version.

Hi @gurkan_bozkurt,

Thank you for your feedback! We are continuously working to enhance performance and further refine the process, including improving geometry handling.

It would be very helpful if you could share your model with us. This will allow us to test it on our end and better understand why creating element types is taking longer than expected.

Feel free to reach out to us at info@mksdtech.com, and we’ll ensure a prompt response.

Thank you once again for taking the time to share your experience!
