I can't open my grasshopper files

I can’t open any of my grasshopper files…
When I double click to open, is says something like my file is not a rhino m_archive file.
I tried to disable all my plugins for grasshopper first, but it still not works.
I can still make a new file and save it, so I tried another approach, making save empty file and open it.
Unfortunately, It did not work.
However, my grasshopper file work well on windows PC, but I want to work on my laptop..
My Rhino8 version is now (8.17.25066.07002, 2025-03-07).
I have Educational License.
Can you help me?

here is link to my grasshopper files..

thank you.
best,

On macOS, it is best to first launch Rhino, then Grasshopper. In Grasshopper, you can then open your files with the file browser or CMD + o.

Opening Grasshopper files by double-clicking has been causing a lot of bugs, since forever really. Currently, I sometimes still do this out of reflex and it resets my entire Rhino back to “factory settings”.

That is the workaround I use too, but not being able to click on a .gh file to open it is a real pain!

Is there a real solution to this bug?

Hi Bob -

Not at this point, no. We have that issue on the list as RH-84766 Error opening a Grasshopper file on Mac

At some point, it would probably be beneficial to completely integrate Grasshopper into Rhino, instead of keeping this kinda weird, frankly dated plug-in like vibe with two separate windows.
Legally I don’t know if that would be feasible, since Rutten came up with Grasshopper as a plug-in, but it’s also not like Grasshopper can run without Rhino.

On macOS, it’s not even Grasshopper any more. Instead the Grasshopper window/program is called “Rhinoceros”. That’s a step in the right direction!

For me, it would be great if I could simply have a two-window layout in Rhino, with one window being a traditional Rhino view and the other a node-based scripting window, formerly known as Grasshopper.
Just imagine the streamlining that could be done… :exploding_head:

Not on my mac running latest Seqouia

You’re right, also not persistently on Sonoma! It must be a bug that happens sometimes with window switching or something, because I’ve noticed this a couple of times already.

Hi Marc -

It is completely integrated into Rhino. Most of everything in Rhino is implemented in plug-ins.

That’s not related to how Grasshopper is “delivered” in Rhino and we have the feature request on this list:
RH-45413 Canvas transparency; panacea or nightmare? You decide!
