I can add a control point in the mesh?

For me the SplitMeshEdge command does not exactly what I want. I just want to add another point on a mesh edge. Basically splitting one triangle into two. How to do that?
SplitMeshEdge adds a point on a mesh edge and splits the adjoining face(s) into two triangles. Can you post an example of what doesn’t work for you?
