How to make a mold/negative in Rhino6?

I would like to make a mold with the model’s negative. I have tried boolean difference while it’s inside a box, but all it does is just erase the model without leaving its negative.

The model is mesh, and I have tried meshbooleandifference, but it still won’t work.

Is there any other way of doing this?

There needs to be a spit surface from the internal shape to the outer shape so the object can be split.

Another option is to have two stacked outer boxes (two half’s of the mold) then the internal shape can be subtracted from those two mold parts

John, a “solid” is Rhino is a closed polysurface. In general it is not possible to have a hollow solid. (There is a work-around but it is not recommended for most uses.) Hence Scott’s advice.

I guess I should add if it is a sand casting or something like that the boolean the pour tube or branch to the model. This extends it outside the mold stock.
