Boolean Difference

Hii,
Can anyone guide me I i cannot create boolean Difference in any solid squre object. Basically I am triying to create a negative mould from this surface.

Fuse print.3dm (7.7 MB)

Which surface? There are 56 surfaces, 25 polysurfaces, 2 meshes in your file.

Also provide an example of a “solid square object” which does not work.

well i m very new to this. basically i have zero knowledge abt 3d drawing.

I m tring to make mould like this.

Each of these objects are not solid objects. They have open or naked edges that will confuse any boolean operation. The objects seemed to be grouped. These surfaces should be Joined instead. I would ungroup the objects then try and Join them.

To make it more difficult the NURBS surfaces are duplicated. So there are a lot of surfaces right one top of each other. Unfortunately SelDup will not find them. The surfaces must be deted one by one.

Using Analyze pulldown > Edges > Show edges and look at Naked edges will show the problems.

Did these models get imported from another software? The problems in the geometry can be fixed, but there are a number of confused edges in these models. Here is a video about the process: https://youtu.be/Jj5694IZDx0?feature=shared

i tried but as a noob couldnot ended up with the solution, would appriciate if someone do it for me, by the way it was a .step file which i downloaded from internet.

I think if you spent a couple of days learning Rhino, you could likely replicate the design intent of this object with very few surfaces. There is at least one if not two symmetries here.

Given you want the external surfaces, you could probably extract the edge curves, smooth/rebuild them, and then create surfaces using those to within a good degree of accuracy.

It really is worth the time to learn this.

Can you drop the step file here. It is hard to believe it is so poorly modeled. I hope that with some import settings it might be easier to fix.

But, know that this file in its current state is quite a challenge.

Fuse.STEP (1.8 MB)
Front Fuse cover.STEP (2.4 MB)
hii, here is the .STEP file.

Importing the models using these settings:

The fuse model is not so bad with 8 naked edges in this area, but otherwise it is closed. So repairing that area should get a much better model.

The cover on the other hand is a bit of a mess as the surfaces overlap each other. There will need to be some trimming and joining in this case.

To navigate these types of repairs will require understanding more of the tools within Rhino. So that tutorial and the others on the learn page should help build a better understanding. Rhino - Learn to use Rhino
