Hi! I am trying to recreate a precedent with grasshopper, I am quite new with it so I do need some more in depth explanations of some scripts I have seen. I followed HowToRhino’s parametric brick wall script but I don’t think it was actually what I was after as the protrusion of the wave wasn’t as pronounced. It also did not have the alternating brick pattern either (though I had a look at a different script I found here) and I just kinda struggled to understand it.
So I’m basically starting from scratch and having a look at different scripts.
If you need links to the scripts I’ve looked at just let me know! I’ve also provided an image of the precedent (Chi She by Archi-Union Architects). I know that there’s plenty of scripts online and stuff but I’ve been deep diving for so long I think I understand grasshopper less than I did before
you chose quite a complex task to get started with GH
If you are still at the beginning, I think it is important to build stuff from the ground up by yourself.
Opening finished scripts and trying to understand them can be tricky and a potential waste of time.
in the canvas screenshot below, some key points are marked in red
this example uses a length based pattern that gets >Cull Nth< to create a 2:1 rythm.
I use >Simple Mesh< for speed reasons before the array
the three >MD sliders< at the bottom left create the influence curve. I prefer that to referencing from Rhino because it works with real time viewport feedback. Reparametrize >interpolate< output!
the influence curve distance mapping uses two >gaussian graph mappers<.
make sure to use 1 to 0 domain for the remap, so close distances to the curve get moved the furthest. The second graph mapper (top one) creates a falloff towards the curve ends by using the curve parameters filtered trough the gaussian curve (falloff start AND end)
>mesh join< at the end is also crucial for display speed!
Thank you so much, really appreciate you taking the time to have a look! I’m not at my pc at the moment so I’ll have a look later!
Also yeah I agree that it is a difficult precedent!! I didnt have too many options as I had to choose from a list of precedents provided Then I regretted it after I found a lot of the tutorials I had a look at tended to just rotate the bricks depending on the attractor and I was just like thats not really what I was after… and then i had to factor in the alternating bricks
