How to get a 2D shape of a 3D mesh structure?

I am trying to create a 2D version of a 3D mesh structure in order to laser cut the shape out of paper and then rebend it into the correct shape. Is there a program or a command that could help me do this?

The original shape is a gridshell structure and I would like to make a model out of bend laser-cut paper.
