How much space should I leave for C drive when creating a new partition?

I recently bought a new laptop and I want to partition the hard drive so I have a separate D drive for storing documents, 3d files, etc. The laptop has a 1TB SSD.

I’m wondering how many GB I should keep allocated for the c drive to ensure that there is enough room to accommodate for the software that I currently use as well as future software that will get installed. And, obviously, since no one here has crystal ball lets just say for the sake of simplicity the software that will be installed is Rhino, Adobe suite, Revit, and AutoCad.

Should I be thinking somewhere in the realm of 500 GB or would 250 GB be ample? Apologies for asking something that involves so many unknowns. And obviously the more space the better to ensure that I have future proofed this thing.

Thanks in advanced for any suggestions or advice!

Hi @jtreitz,

If it were me, I’d create a single 1TB partition. Then you don’t have to worry about making it too small.

Do you mean just keep it as it is? I have one 1TB SSD in the laptop currently with a single partition, the C: drive. I wouldn’t need to create anything if I am understanding you because it comes straight from the factory with a single partition (not taking into account the smaller boot drives that come with a new computer.
If I am not understanding your suggestion (which is could easily be the case) please let me know
Thanks

Yes, I guess that it what I was trying to say.
