deleted the Mcneel folder in ‘Application Support’
deleted the Mcneel folder in ‘Library/Shared’
Still when i reinstall and open Rhino, it remebered the View settings / Recent files etc.
What did I miss?
Side Note - i have the strange bug in WIP where text windows do no scroll to the end, and i want to try a clean install to see if it goes away:
What they fail to tell you is that you need to click on the “New in V8” TAB at the top right (1), then you get a whole new row of ICONS just below that tab. Click on the icon (2) which is the 3rd icon from the left (an icon of a rhino head and a counter-clockwise arrow) in that long row (see screenshot). Hovering over that icon will say “Reset Rhino”.
Now why doesn’t McNeel say that to begin with? So unclear.
Sorry, I wasn’t entirely clear in my previous post. Not only was I missing the LEFT side toolbar, but Rhino was also missing the Command line white entry field at the top of that missing toolbar.
As someone brand new to Rhino (and CAD) but, who is also well-seasoned (20+ years) in the Adobe suite and Logic etc…, I find the help areas quite unclear.
In the Help forums it should be written, “type ‘Reset’ in the white Command Line text field” instead of assuming that someone brand new to the program would even know to do this. In my case, the only way to access “Reset” was through the icon, which, btw., I found only by chance when inspecting every single icon, under every different tab. Of course, the “New in V8” was the last tab…
I thank you for your quick reply. Truly appreciated!
Was this on a fresh install of Rhino?<<
Yes, this was a newly installed update to the latest version of Rhino 8 (for Mac).
Welcome!<<
Thank you! I’ve never been personally welcomed by a new app.
Where did you start in getting help and how did you find it?
Did you start off with any documentation or guides in particular?<<
As with most apps, I usually start off with acquainting myself with the UI, and seeing where things are and how I can customize toolbars etc… In doing so, I apparently toggled off the left side tool bar and “Command Line”.
I first tried searching the help dialog in the right-hand toolbar. Honestly, not helpful, but I find the self-contained “Help” areas in other apps equally “unhelpful”. I then googled, searched youtube (which I find helpful because you’re actually shown where a solution is), and then went on to your forums. No exaggeration: it took two full hours to find the answer. In the beginning I was a bit presumptuous. Yeah, I knew learning a CAD program’s language would be a bit steep, but I was brought to my knees by just accessing the UI !!!
It was literally my first lengthy time in Rhino. I was following along some Mcneel and outside YT tutorials when this happened. Quite frustrating not being able to access the basic UI.
Again, I greatly appreciate your interest in helping future newbies.
