please let us hide the current layer already, it is so painful having to breakdance your way there instead of one simple click onto a bulp.
there are quite a few topics where this was requested, i did not dig up all the requests, but these are certainly the more recent ones
Would like the ability to turn off the current layer. Constantly having to make another layer current in order to hide the contents of the layer I’m working in has been super tedious for going on 20 years now.
In our old autocad days, this was a thing. I miss that ability. I know many will complain that this will allow creating objects on an ‘off’ layer, but I don’t see this as an issue.
Any chances of implementing this as an option in settings someday?
I know there all kinds of isolation and…
Hi,
When we try to hide the current layer we get a message and we need to select another layer …
I saw old topics about that with no real outcome.
Would it be possible to include this event in layer table events so we could at least manage it like we want ?
Or is there a way to address that with rhinocommon ?

Why not? Sometimes I don’t care which layer is currently active, I’m turning a bunch of layers off, and Rhino responds by throwing this annoying spike-strip across my path, forcing me to stop and choose some other (often arbitrary) layer to make active before I am allowed to proceed.
It makes no sense that Rhino won’t allow me to turn the current layer off, but it will allow me to DELETE the current layer or the parent of a current layer (in both cases it asks me to confirm deletion, then simpl…
Hello everyone, please: Rhino selected layer, how to point a small light bulb to hide it

edit:
i found an open tracker that is partially related RH-70584 what these request and mine are instead are to turn of the current layer.

On the list now as RH-85102 Layer: Turn Off Current Layer
Would you expect a warning to pop up when a user creates an object while the layer is off?

thank you @wim
i personally would just have it turn on automatically since turning on is what i would have to do then anyway. i think a user should just be aware what layer they are drawing on

+1 for allowing the current layer to be off. A smaller nuisance, but a frequent one.
Summary:
It should be possible to make the current layer hidden.
Setting the current layer to some hidden layer will not make this layer visible.
Trying to create something on a hidden layer will just make the layer visible.

Personally, I would avoid all types of pop-ups as they tend to prevent extensions or scripts from working. Sometimes Rhino simply writes in the prompt what could go wrong or has gone wrong. I think this is the best way to inform and allow some freedom. At least a global flag in the options to warn via popups or command prompt. When you get used to a software you need reminders not show-stoppers.
