Hi my grasshopper is acting...irregularly

This has happened many times and I’ve never gotten it fixed, but the most notable things are the my XY axis in grasshopper came switched(but not for rhino) and when I plug in a surface no grids appear - not even when I plug in UV dimensions.

I am having this problem following a lot of YouTube tutorials so I’d really appreciate if someone could help me fix it. Sorry not a lot of information but I don’t know where to start.

post a screenshot or screen recording?

I can’t spot any issues. I think you might be mistaking an object (mesh surface) for the rhino grid? The red gridded plane you see is your mesh surface component. The rhino grid is unaffected, visible below (gray). When getting into grasshopper, one of the first things to get used to is object previews, which start to overlap as you build the script. This can be confusing so it’s good practice to turn them off and preview only the necessary components as you go.

No I know that it is not an actual grid but in the video lines show up after setting up mesh surface, mine does not have lines. Little things like that make me think my grasshopper is off.

Got it, ok. Still that’s not an issue. In reality, the mesh surface component doesn’t typically display edges by default. Usually you connect its output to a ‘mesh edges’ component to visualize such wires. I am
not aware of why (in the video) the mesh wires (mesh surface component) actually show up. It must be a setting or something, so your grasshopper is not off in that regard.

With the cursor in Grasshopper, press ctrl+m

As @martinsiegrist said, it’s a display setting.

I can’t find the code, as it was from a while ago, but this is a good example of the xy axis being flipped. I was making a tower. If someone can run a diagnostic that would be great

Please explain what’s wrong a little more clearly.

There’s no XY axis. There’s X, Y and Z axis and XY plane and so on…

yes, I know it is not just an XY axis, my point being that all (the XYZ) axis are not matching that in rhino as shown in the bottom corner. That and a whole bunch of nodes not behaving like they should - even when my professor takes over my computer.

You might be confused by the CPlane display..,
