Help a newby with process flow

I’m a total newby to Rhino 8 on windows 11 Pro. I can do very basic stuff like create a block and Push/Pull. Beyond that I’m still trying to learn.

I’ve attached a photo of an old-time sailing ship block I would like to create in Rhino. I don’t want someone to create it for me, but would like some gentle nudges as far as what the logical steps would be to create this in 3D in Rhino. I could produce this in Sketchup but recently made the switch to Rhino, and very glad I made the switch. I don’t have a sketchup license anymore so can’t use it. Thank you in advance! Don

First of all, if you want to better understand some aspects of 3D modeling, I recommend watching these 14 videos.

Why not start from a basic course?
To me is the simplest option.
Eventually the level 1 official guide could be also a good starting point.

hey Don, stuff like this often just takes a bit of guidance to see the process.

the shape of that block is easy, a simple extruded curve… but how to do the “domed” parts…

an easy way to think about it is to actually start backwards in your thinking… model the “domes” first (the hard parts) then loft them together (the easy part)

see below- In my example, I simply split an ellipse in half and scaled it for the right amount of “dominess”

Thank you all so much for the ideas to move forward on this. I’m going to watch the Rhino tutorials.

This is a fantastic idea. Thank you so much!!!
