Grouped points then circle through points lose grouping

Hi
V8 and v5
I create points an a planar wavy line (from section through mesh)
I group the points
run circle through points, select the group and it only selects one point.
The idea of easy select with them grouped is gone.

same issue in v5 as in v8.

As a workaround, you can preselect the points before running Circle FitPoints, but it does seem like this ought to honor object grouping.
