Gaming pc is slow to open both files compared to business laptop

Hi I recently just purchased a new gaming PC to help with a complex modeling task but I can’t even get to work because I cannot even open the files even though the DESKTOP is much faster than my laptop, which was slow in some computation, but opened files no problem.

Gaming PC:

  • |Processor|13th Gen Intel(R) Core™ i9-13900K 3.00 GHz|

  • |Installed RAM|32.0 GB (31.8 GB usable)|

  • |System type|64-bit operating system, x64-based processor|

  • NVIDIA GeForece RTX 4070 Ti

  • Driver 531.41

  • |Edition|Windows 11 Pro|

  • |Version|22H2|

  • |Installed on|‎3/‎27/‎2023|

  • |OS build|22621.1413|

  • |Experience| Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.22639.1000.0|

I have both a gaming driver preference or a studio driver preference with the graphics card, not sure if choosing one or the other matters.

The file is very large 4.28 GB, which I cannot share.

I have to wait at least 3 minutes for the Rhino file to open and then closer to 15 minutes for the grasshopper file to load, but even when I see the components, I cannot pan to perform any actions in the program.

Laptop:

  • Processor Intel(R) Core™ i9-10885H CPU @ 2.40GHz 2.40 GHz

  • Installed RAM 32.0 GB (31.8 GB usable)

  • System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor

  • Pen and touch Touch support with 10 touch points

  • Edition Windows 10 Pro

  • Version 21H2

  • Installed on ‎4/‎17/‎2022

  • OS build 19044.2728

  • Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 120.2212.4190.0

Type of process I’m trying to complete is listed below, but just for a large amount of geometry.

Many thanks for your time.

Hello, which HD or SSD (or NVe) do you use on each PC?

There may be distinct causes to the slow loading and “but even when I see the components, I cannot pan to perform any actions in the program.”

Run the Rhino command SystemInfo on both systems and post the results.

Is there anti-virus software on one or both systems? Many PC’s are sold with anti-virus software pre-loaded. If so are there any differences in the software or how it is configured?

Is the monitor for the desktop plugged into the GPU card or the motherboard. It needs to be plugged into the GPU card to use the GPU card.

In Windows Settings go to Systerm > Display > Graphics
Scroll down to “Custom options for apps” and find Rhino.
Rhino needs to be set to “High performance”.

If Rhino is not set to High performance click on Rhino, then click on Options and select High performance.

Close and restart Rhino if it open.

Please run SYSTEMINFO in Rhino and post the results.

Both systems have NVMe solid state drives. Read speed should not be causing the long load times.

No antivirus on the machines.

Many thanks for your help. My worry is that it may just be a bad apple and will need to return the desktop.

It’s quite possible that the delay is that it’s looking for something related to the plugins you don’t have installed on your new machine.

Check that the monitor Windows is set to High performance for Rhino.
