Many thanks, Dan. T’is an unglamorous task, perhaps, but one that would be much appreciated every minute we use Rhino! ~Dave
Hello Max,
I’ve been preoccupied with learning other aspects of Rhino, and I’ve been having some input issues with the logitech devices I use. Anyway, I’ve been trying to get the 2nd popup menu to work as per your instructions and I can’t get it done. As you can see, I’ve added the requisite script to the alias’s and yet when I type in the letter it’s assigned to I get a dialogue box instead. Is it obvious to you what I’m missing here?
I can’t fault what I see in your pictures. I cannot see if you have conluded the alias command with _Enter
, but even if you didn’t, Rhino should come up with the options for the ShowToolPalette
command, and hitting enter again should bring up your Popup2 palette.
Max.
The latest RhinoWIP has some new commands that should help here:
ExportPreferences
and ImportPreferences
…please give them a try and let us know if these do the trick.
From Dan in another thread: In MacRhino, you can also copy them to your clipboard. Very slick!
Any chance/prediction that the import/export feature will show up in the Windows WIP anytime soon?
If so, this would be the cat’s meow.
Thanks again for this Dan!
~Dave
You can export aliases in Windows Rhino (since the dawn of time) from the options>Aliases page. The result is a text file (.ini). That can be opened/imported into any other application that supports text, such as Word or Excel. You can also import a text file with aliases the same way (it must be formatted correctly - Alias/single space/Command string).

We can certainly write a command to do this, but for now all you really need to know is where to find the settings file on your computer. For the V6 WIP on Windows, the settings file is located at
C:\Users<your account>\AppData\Roaming\McNeel\Rhinoceros\6.0\settings\settings-Scheme_default.xml
It’s usually easiest to get to this in file explorer by typing %appdata% at the top, hitting enter and then drilling down starting with Mcneel
This xml file contains all of the non-default settings for your V6 WIP.
Apologies if I’m missing something obvious, but are y’all saying one can somehow export custom MacRhino commands into WinRhino and visey-versey?
If either is true, might you share further details?
If only one (or neither) is true, easily importable/exportable commands from either platform into the other would be lux.
~Dave
If you re talking about Aliases - what I’m talking about here - yes, possible, I’ve done it several times. If you’re talking about exchanging custom toolbars, no, not possible as far as I know, and as the two systems are completely diffferent, I don’t expect this to happen for a long while yet… but I’d be happy to be proven wrong…
