Is there a way (command preferably) to extrude a single drawn line into a cylinder instead of another line which just creates a plane?
Red drawn diagram shows what I want to happen. Line to cylinder via some kind of extrusion (if possible).
If this is not possible how would I do this to multiple selected lines?

Several alternatives:
Pipe command as eleven suggested.
Line and circle. Line provides the height and direction of the cylinder. ExtrudeCrv the circle along the line. The circle does not need to intersect the line.
Line on the side of the cylinder and a circle. Extrude the line along the circle.
Line on the side of the cylinder. Revolve the line.
