I’ve created a file that holds geometry to be utilized in future modeling projects. Currently using layers as well as sub layers to store the geometry in one base file. I’m using Rhino, Grasshopper, GH Add ons(Elefront,Human UI, Peacock) GHPython as well as running everything through RhinoGold. I’ve looked at a ton of options to simplify my modeling process which makes for a ton of possible causes of the problem. I’m narrowing it down to this one time I attempted to insert rather than import as it has an option for insertion point. The two commands could be completely unrelated but that’s my main lead at the time. I was thinking of doing a Work session but not completely sure if i am still in one or if that would cause a change to import position. I’m not sure if there is a way to reset Insertion point at the export stage or even correcting the position change at time of import. If it were just moving the file back that would be less of a stress but using some of the gem tools in RhinoGold seems to be referencing the pre-moved geometry. I’m lost and spinning my wheels any help clarifying how iv gone so terribly wrong would be amazing!
Thanks to whomever joins in hopes to figure out the issue or to help explain the possible cause of issue!
the import location of geometry that I export at world center is no longer at world center when i re-import it. its coming in at -.5,-20,0. I just checked my cplane thinking i may have moved it but its at 0,0,0.
I just tried opening a file and its opening at the correct position but import is not. see image.
it was set to Model basepoint <0.600,20.000,0.000>:
looks like there still importing at the incorrect position but that’s because they were saved at that base point correct? Any idea of fixing files upon import? thanks for the help!
Hello - yeah, I don’t know the exact scenario you have there but you’d want to save the file with the model base point at the World origin in order for it to import to the world origin with the same relationship to that point.
thanks! on to Rhinogold for my next problem unless you would have an idea of why this is happening obviously its related to the basepoint thing but its how they read gems and there location to place there cutters onto. If its unrelated to Rhino no worries and thanks for your help.
