Error loading plug-in - dependent DLL is out of date

Hi,

I’ve recently bought Simlab plugin for exporting 3d pdfs. Plugin installs correctly on Windows but does not load when starting rhino.
I’m using rhino Version 8 SR4 (8.4.24044.15001, 2024-02-13)

I’ve contacted their support but they’ve been of no help and they take years to reply to my e-mails. Does anyone know what might be the problem?

Thanks

HI Andres,
I am struggling with this problem. I have installed RHINO 8 , but when I want to open rhino , some crazy errors comeu up.
these are errors:
Unable to load RhinoRenderCycles.rhp plug-in: initialization failed.
Unable to load rdk_etoui.rhp plug-in: application initialization failed.
Unable to load RhinoCycles.rhp plug-in: application initialization failed.
Unable to load Displacement.rhp plug-in: Dependent DLL is out of date.

After these errors , RHINO comes up but some commands do not work. such as:

  • Unknown command: _SubDBox
  • Unknown command: _MeshBox
  • Unknown command: _SubDPlane
  • Unknown command: _PackageManager.

The most interesting problem is that when I click on “tools” menu and then under “option” , there is not any " plug-ins" item!
what can I DO?
PLEASE HELP ME

Hi Hamid -
Please run the Rhino ‘SystemInfo’ command and copy-paste the output here.
-wim

Have you tried a “Repair” of Rhino from the Windows Control Panel?
-wim

not yet!
but I uninstalled and reinstalled several times with no result!
. what should I do?

That is some seriously old hardware there (by hardware evolution standards).

Normally I would advocate that Rhino will run on many old machines.

However, you have an Nvidia GT 540M… from 2011!

It’s hard to tell if the software is complaining about a Windows DLL or if there is a SimLab DLL that is declared out of date.

I’d say to update your drivers, but you may have just tipped the edge of realistic hardware compatibility. If the Nvidia is really from 2011, then you have something like a Sandy/Ivy Bridge Intel CPU? If these are driver DLL conflicts, I’m not surprised if something is out of date.

I noticed on SimLab that they have older versions of the plugin. Have you tried those too?

I did it, same error

hi dear.
how did you noticed my Nvidia GT… is from 2011?!
what is Simlab?!
please guide me step by step to solve this problem,.
I got crazy for several days!

My only throw of the dice is to at least try and get the final Nvidia drivers for your Nvidia GT 540M. This seems to be 391.35 - Release Date: Tue Mar 27, 2018, which is the WHQL release directly from Nvidia website.

However, note that this GPU is getting very old, likely as is the CPU. I’m not even sure if it is a dual core CPU. Given it has Intel HD3000, for that era it suggests a Sandy Bridge era CPU (2-4 cores or threads).

Also note that you only have 1 GB of GPU VRAM. Windows 8 onwards can idle to use a good part of that already. The same goes for your 8 GB of system RAM.

If you are not having a specific problem with SimLab, then it would have been better to start a new topic.

Anyway, we are here now. Update your drivers first, and then see if it helps you any. But I suspect that for at least Rhino 8, you may need to consider a new laptop. With a desktop it is different, as you can buy your way out by at least changing the GPU and sometimes the CPU.

However, mobile devices remain usually well-locked to whatever you have.

my laptop properties! :point_up_2:

I think the fact that the"plug in" icon is not available under " tools" menu and I can not download plugin by that, probably has nothing to do with the graphics and cpu and…!

unknown command _packagemanager .
whats the problem pleeeeeease

It could be any DLL. However the lowest common denominator here is the hardware.

I know it is commonly expected that Rhino will run on much older hardware than say 3DS Max. But that doesn’t mean it will run on a VAX-11. This may simply be a case that you have hit something and are now expecting a fix beyond reasonable expectation.

@nathanletwory or @wim it looks like problems start in Displacement, but I have no idea what the DLLs would be for that. Maybe there is a distributed package or something missing on Windows 10?
