Embedding images in Rhino 7

I’m looking for a command that allows me to import an image and to embed it permanently.

I have been just pulling images into layouts to create manufacture drawings and now when I send them to my colleague the images are blank. Presumably because I need to send the pasted images with the Rhino file…which is tedious!

I’m working in Rhino 7. I have seen previous discussions that date back to 2017, so the recommended commands don’t exist. It seems like a very obvious and simple request - any help greatly appreciated!

In V7, when you save a file, make sure the Save textures option is checked and all images used in the file will be embedded.

Brilliant, worked a charm, thanks John.
I’d buy you a beer if I could!

V5 did not do this.
If you open a V5 file, make sure you check that box when saving it so the images will be embedded.

Also using V7 Mac but this doesn’t work for me when I’m sending files to colleges the reference images are missing it’s the same with decals which I’m also finding unstable. any help greatly received regards

Hi Zen -

Please run the Rhino SystemInfo command and copy-paste the result here.

Hi Wim

here you go.

Curious if a solution was found for mac users. I am currently experiencing the same issue. Thanks.

Hi Dylan - what exactly are you seeing ? Can you provide the exact steps to repeat the problem?

I work on a PC at my work office. I am looking to continue working on a rhino file at home on my Mac. I have saved the file and to the cloud however when I open it on my Mac the placed images are showing up only as surfaces. I can work around this by sending myself the images and placing them again but this becomes cumbersome after repetition.

Essentially the issue is that the ‘save textures’ checkbox does not seem to work when opening a file on Mac.

So, On Windows Rhino run Picture. Save the file, with textures. Open the file on Mac, there are no images, correct?

So far this work as expected, here.

Does this file open on Mac with an image?

I had some trouble with this when moving files from one windows machine to another, however, I found out the problem was that I was copying the table in excel and pasting into Rhino without ever saving the image as a file.

Sometimes the image even vanished from the file without changing computers, I guess when windows cleaned temporary files or something it erased the temporary file because the file name that Rhino was asking for me to find was Clipboard(randomnumbers).

Could this be causing the trouble with the vanishing textures? Can clipboard pasted images be embeded into the file?

I hope this info helps!
