@AndyPayne : Other egg-crate-related question : is it possible to explicitly bake in a given layout ?
Seeing the deluge of fancy drafting and annotation components, and also the “Query Pages” component, I figured layouts had not been forgotten, unlike grouping.
The whole premise of “pro” drafting is that model and annotations lie in separate spaces, right ?
I noticed that GH objects don’t preview in layouts, but if the current view is a layout, and I right-click and bake, objects are baked in the layout.
Yet, if I use the egg-crate, the objects are baked in the object-space, or model-space, whatever you want to call it.
So ? How do we go about and generate objects in “paper-space” whith the new, “improved” system ?
Curves, dimensions, leaders… and views of course ?
Also, any idea when we can expect up-to date documentation about the whole egg-crate enchilada ?
Yet, if I feed the output from “Query pages” to the “Model view” component, I can get it’s decomposition, which is strange because a page layout isn’t really a view.
A view would be a “Detail” that I could eventually add to a layout.
Has this been thought-out, or do you guys just spew components out as you go and see what happens ?
Well, thanks. Should be native of course.
Actually, what I really need is to bake details in a layout.
Lots of annotation delicacies and frivolity in GH for V8, but layouts seem to be completely out of the picture.
that’s correct, there are no tools as of yet to do this with native components. There is Drafthorse on food4rhino, but I don’t have personal experience with it.
They aren’t out of the picture. They are very much on our roadmap… we have just not gotten to every feature that we want to add to the Grasshopper toolset.
Trying to use it right now.
You can indeed create layouts, but they also randomly disappear, so it’s just not useable.
Maybe a bug, I dunno, but it leaves no choice other than closing and re-opening the file.
Also, you can create details in your layouts, but can’t add geometry to create title blocks, etc…
So if you need to have a layout with title blocks created manually, then the whole thing feels a bit silly.
Also, you need to click the darn icons to generate stuff.
There’s a “run” input on most components, but it says you can’t plug a boolean button ; it has to be a toggle which makes no sense to me.
Has anyone out there used this plugin and made it do something useful ?
Maybe I’m missing something…
No.
I would have made a separate input for the good old “bake”, for use with a boolean button.
Heck ! I’d even rather a separate component that I don’t need to tweak each time I want to bake stuff.
I had too many headaches with the concept of pushing and pulling data between Rhino and GH.
Looping infernos, buttons that remain stuck, like with Human UI, sudden unexplained disappearance of geometry, erratic data reading from the model.
Put blocks on top of that, and I’m out of here.
I think only a small elite will truly benefit from this whole wizard’s apprentice stuff, and for all the rest, it’s a waste of time and potentially a risk of losing valuable data.
