E57 point cloud doesn't display properly (Rhino8)

Hi.

When I import a point cloud in E57 format, it looks distorted:

However, if I move it to (0, 0, 0), it looks correct.

What could be the problem?

Thank you in advance.

Hi JJJ13 -

That sounds like the common “far from origin” issue that is related to how computer hardware works. How far from the origin is the cloud when it is imported? Can you post the .e57 file?
-wim

The cloud is far away from the origin, in real coordinates. The thing is that I have never had this problem when importing E57 files. However, if I import the same file in Rhino7, it looks correct; I don’t have any problem.

I think the problem exists since I updated Rhino8 to version 8.17.25066.07001, because until then I was importing E57 correctly into Rhino8 (but this is just a guess).

PS: sorry, I cannot attach the e.57 file.

Hi JJJ13 -

If you can upload it to us from Rhino Accounts I can check if we introduced a regression somewhere.
-wim

Done.

Hi -

Thanks. The file you uploaded is in the .las file format, which Rhino doesn’t read. Could you upload a file in the .e57 format?
-wim

I am sorry. I forwarded it to you via that link.

Hi -
When I import that .e57 file into a factory-default millimeter template, I get the following:

Is it possible this is a different file than the one that you showed a screenshot of in the first post in this thread?

I tried in 8.16, 8.17, 8.18, 8.19 and the Rhino 9 WIP, all with the same result.
Please also run the Rhino SystemInfo command and copy-paste its output here.
-wim

Ok, in my case I insert the file into a factory-default meter template, and right, it is not the same file the last one I attached, but it happens with whatever file on those coordinates (where I usually work) that I try to import.

Hi -

You have manually changed the OpenGL slider from “Max OpenGL Available” to “OpenGL 2.1”. Was this done to solve a specific problem? I would try to download the latest drivers for this device and install them with the “Clean Install” option and put the slider back to the max position.

Thank you so much. I do not recall changing that option. I set it to the maximum available and now everything works fine.

Best regards.
