looks like your laptop monitor is the secondary monitor…does setting it to be the primary help?
see this thread-
My display settings have been as you recommend at the above link for Rhino 7 for years, and Rhino 8 has installed this month respecting the same settings. But the only time my Nvidia card has ever shown any activity in about 8 years of rhinoing is when raytracing.
My Nvidia control panel settings were at the defaults though, so I’ve changed them as recommended in the above link. Maybe that will make a difference.
Ah yes. As you said. Will see what that does.
Now if I can just get my shortcuts to stay put (now they won’t) on what is now my secondary screen where they won’t be covered by Rhino, and if I can get the system to use the laptop camera to recognize my face to sign me into windows (now it won’t). And if I can arrange it so every windows explorer window doesn’t open on top of my Rhino project. And if when I go to to import an .obj the options dialog box activates but dissappears, deactivating and freezing the Rhino interface so that it must be killed in task manager.
In short, running Rhino on a secondary monitor just isn’t working. Reverting. Maybe tech support can help next week.
Still having this problem.
Spoke with Japhy of tech support who recommended disabling plugins, and the problem didn’t cropped up for hours.
So I took it up with the Visual Arq folks who tells me there’s a reported issue with Rhino disappearing selected blocks, which is unrelated to Va. That thread is here, Objects Disappear when selected but the jetbrains link doesn’t work for me.
Since then I’ve reactivated VisualArq and while working most of the day the issue hasn’t occured again.
Hi David -
I’ve made that issue public now.
Case closed, then?

Thanks Wim. I don’t know. Do we know if that reported issue is VisualArq-related? For me an almost identical issue comes and goes. It went when Va was deactivated this time, but I’m not convinced of the causality if this reported issue, which seems so similair, isn’t exclusively associated with Va in this report. I can’t tell if this reported issue has been verified as Rhino-dwelling within the McNeel reporting system. I hold out hope that the issue could be addressed somehow and fear it falling through the cracks with both the plug-in and the host application believing it’s exclusively associated with the other party.
An update: it began happening again at the end of yesterday’s workday. It began immediately after I used a block as a source for a matchproperties command. I don’t know that was the cause, as I have had the problem begin while I was away from the computer making coffee. Also It’s only an issue with blocks. Non-blocks I can still select without them disappearing.
can you open a blank file, make a block, import the suspicious block and match properties to recreate the behavior?
If we can repeat the problem in isolation, it will be much more direct of a fix.
I hope to get some time to try that today. I lost a lot of time recreating aspects of the project yesterday and today has some extra pressure.
I worked for the day until the issue arose. I had a blank project open, so I copied a disappearing block (when this happens, any and all blocks disappear when selected) from my working project and pasted it into the blank project. It doesn’t disappear when pasted and selected in this blank project. This seems unsurprising because the issue develops intermittently in any project, and not often when the project hasn’t been worked with much. A block resident in the blank project, with properties matched to the pasted block, doesn’t display the issue either. I’ve attached it in case it’s of any use.

Hi David -
When I copy the block instance that is in the file that is attached to RH-89896, and paste that into a new file, it still shows the behavior of disappearing when it’s selected.
That makes this sound a bit like two different issues.
Please be on the lookout for a specific workflow that makes this happen in any case.
