Dimensions Not Aligning with Desired Plane in Section/Elevation View

Hi everyone,

I’m having trouble placing dimensions (“Dims”) on a specific plane.

Here’s the situation: I set the CPlane to the desired plane in a 3D view and, when I place dimensions from that 3D view with Project enabled in the OSnaps, they are positioned correctly.

However, I need to create dimensions from a section or elevation view, where it’s easier to snap to the correct points. When I try to dimension from that view, the dimensions end up being placed on an offset or unknown plane — far away from my model, and not aligned with the current CPlane.

How can I force dimensions to follow the current CPlane while working in an elevation or section view?
Or perhaps a better workflow to dimension orthographically while keeping them properly aligned?

Thanks!

Take a look at this print and where the OSnap Project goes in relation to the CPlane

Keep in mind that each viewport has its own CPlane. Changing the CPlane in one viewport won’t automatically change it in others. You might want to use the CopyCPlaneToAll command.

Worked, thanks! Didn’t knew it
