How do I influence parameters such as rocker, beam, Deadrise angle etc. is there a good video out on this particular feature? Would it be possible to get some more basic models for a start? I am looking for a 6m, 2m beam 12deg deadrise rescue boat with the deadrise carried far fwd and near vertical sides.
Go to the ORCA3D webpage and watch the tutorials there. Developable hulls are more of a challenge if done properly but there the tools you want to look for are DevSurf.
Here is my present project for a tunnel hull catamaran tender at 12' LOA.
Where you will probably want to do is use the Hull Assistant feature of ORCA and this video should get you started.
Good Luck
Remember that the Hull Assistants are simply a way to help you get started with a 3D surface which has the correct overall parameters, and is created with a NURBS surface that has a well-organized topology. It would be rare for the hull design to be complete right out of the hull assistant. Once you click the Create Hull button, you have a NURBS surface which you can continue to edit and shape using the control points (the Orca3D tutorial in the Help file describes this process). Defining sections (in the Orca3D Hull Design menu) lets you create a table of locations for stations, buttock, waterlines, diagonals, cants, and inclines. Then as you move the control points, you will see these sections update in real-time, allowing you to shape and fair your surface.
Hi Jody, that’s a nice looking tender!
Thanks Bruce!
A far cry from that Caribiana Skiff I stopped in at your office on the way home from the boat shows! I built a Split V tunnel cat like this in the Virgin Islands when I lived aboard my Passport 40. I called it the 'All Nines' as it was 9'9" LOA and 99 lbs and was pushed quite nicely by a Yamaha 9.9HP. This is an expanded version to be built in Coosa Board at 12'3" LOA powered by a Tohatsu 18HP. Note that it nests as well. I'm about to run some speed and power predictions in Orca2. Hope to be able to sell a CNC cut kit version eventually.
DS Hull 20M.3dm (119.8 KB) Hi lausl,
I just used the Developable Hull Assistant in Orca2 to generate this hull which is close to your specs. Play around with it and be sure to look at the assistant to see how to plug in your parameters there with previews and then you can 'create' the hull you want. Sort of like 'baking' something created in Grasshopper.
