I am trying to create this model with the help of SubD because the bottom part of this ring should be all meshed together, so I think SubD is the right approach, but I am not sure with I am doing it the right way, by creating just the top part and than trying to bridge the bottom part together ? How would you do it ?
the way to do this in v8 is to just mash a bunch of shapes together, get the overall look correct, then shrinkwrap it to get your booleans and transitions all in one shot, then quadremesh, tosubd, then tonurbs (if needed) or simply print your shrinkwrapped part if you are going to a printer.
and another more craftman approach:
if you re working with lost wax casting and if your slicer / 3d-printer-software allows intersecting volumes (most slicers like Cura do):
Just print a sharp version with many intersecting volumes, a bit to thin.
dip it into hot wax afterwards… ;-D
Nice design. And as usual, thoughtful, knowledgeable modeling advise.
However, given the view of the rendered image I am not clear as to what the spherical object is or going to be? a gem or metal or pearl ? or none of these ? Knowing this might better inform one as how to proceed. i.e. which modeling advise - educated guess - is the best fit to start with.
Seeing a view that clarifies this would be enjoyable to see and perhaps prompt additional advise. e.g. if it is a gem: modeling approach / setting to best bring out the gem.
