CRASH - filletSrfToRail

filletSrfToRail was such a promising command in rhino 8. but it is close to useless and fails so often.

and finally it offers a repeatable crash.
(completely Rhino crash, all data is lost… be careful)

This is the input that will crash with filletSrfToRail being applied

filletSrfToRailcrash02.3dm (297.4 KB)

this is what i wanted to get - done with a custom script:

{"app_name":"Rhinoceros","timestamp":"2025-02-24 00:19:09.00 +0100","app_version":"8.17","slice_uuid":"b453fe94-451b-3938-badf-ea49a1f6ee2c","build_version":"8.17.25049.13002","platform":1,"bundleID":"com.mcneel.rhinoceros.8","share_with_app_devs":0,"is_first_party":0,"bug_type":"309","os_version":"macOS 13.7 (22H123)","roots_installed":0,"name":"Rhinoceros","incident_id":"0ABE8392-CE43-4180-96DF-B753FD696340"}

see these topics to…

i came across this crash while wanting to offer a modelling solution for this question

looking forward to get some real fillet enhancements (@menno ?) in Rhino V9
(by the way my question about interpolating curves to get a variable fillet is about optimizing above script, i use instead of filletSrfToRail and instead of variableFilletSrf…)

cheers

Tom

Thank you for your feedback, it has been logged to our development engineers.

This issue has been fixed in Rhino 8.18, I will send a download link to you via DM

great - thanks.
but is the inward fillet also found ?
see initial post:

i do most stuff on a mac, but i am fine to wait until the next service release candidate… thanks for the download-link in the DM.

No, the inward fillet is not found. That is now a RH-86204.

RH-86202 is fixed in Rhino 8 Service Release 18 Release Candidate
