Control points remain circle despite square in properties set V8

Hi,
in V7 control points had been made circle and I had to remake as square. as per V5.

Now in V8 I am faced with same task in setting up V8 as I want it (as V5) BUT they refuse to go square.
whats going on ?

I also have unticked points show when line selected, in Mouse settings, at least that sorts that issue out, as was needed to solve it in V7, V5 off by default.

You are looking at the setting for points; not control points. Those are under “Surfaces”.
