more a bug report than a support request; I am working on a model for a framed timber building. To create the construction drawings I am using clippingplanes. In principle it works quite well (though sometimes Rhino doesn’t get the visible and hidden lines right and and solids are not always drawn as solids).
However, as the number of sections increases, I find the overall performance becoming increasingly unstable, to the point of it really slowing down my work.
I have 22 clipping drawings by now (with many different objects/layers assigned to them individually), and when I now try to delete one section or the corresponding layer, Rhino crashes, when I delete a layout, Rhino crashes.
If for instance I created a clipping drawing without “Show solids” and want to change that for that particular drawing, the EditClippingDrawings command is at the moment not working for that function (this is general behaviour for me, also in other models, I guess the layers are not being created through the command). So I used to delete the drawing and create an new one with the changed settings; however now, I have to put the wrongly outputted drawings and corresponding sections in a “trash” parent layer to at least not see them, which I guess also doesn’t improve the overall performance.
I guess I’m challenging the envelope of what the function is laid out to do, my model has over 1000 polysurfaces in total (timber construction…); anyways I think it is not in itself a complex use, at least it seems to me that the things I’m asking Rhino to do are not complex (like deleting a set of layers).
