Cannot Change Linetype of Referenced Layer

Hello,

We are trying to link floor plans of a building into other files (rcp’s, electrical plans, mechanical plans, etc.) - similar to xref in AutoCAD.

We need to change some linetypes of the linked floor plan within the file it is being linked into but without changing it in the base file (as it is linked elsewhere) - for example, we need a soffit line to show hidden on the floor-plan but solid on the rcp where it is being linked into.

But, we get an error “Cannot Change Linetype of Referenced Layers” - this shows for both inserted files and files linked via work-sharing.

Is this typical for Rhino3D and is there a work-around? It looks like we can change all of the other layer options (print color, print width, etc.) but just Linetype appears to be an issue.

Thank you,

Austin

Hi Austin,

You’ll want to insert using the Linked with Active Layers option.

Note that you may want unique layer names in the base file if you have the same names in the receiving file.

That’s it - thank you! Quick follow-up, is there a way to crop an inserted file down to a certain area, similar to AutoCad’s “xclip” command?

We do have this a feature request, currently it’s categorized as ‘Future’, no not looking likely for Rhino 9. We will have viewport clipping, which will help in Layouts in this regard.

great thank you!
