Here is a video that describes it the best,
only the Box is included in Clipping plane.
I guess it is not a wanted behavior.

Check you haven’t allowed those curves to be excluded from the clipping plane. You can see what’s excluded by viewing the clipping plane properties – in the screenshot below I have the curve excluded.
No sorry, they are excluded as you see them. Thats not the problem
Ahh I think I understand.
I’m guessing that the clipping plane applies to everything by default. Since the preview line can’t be added to an excluded layer (or explicitly excluded), the clipping plane applies. When it’s added to the model Rhino can check if the clipping plane should be applied or not (based on the exclusion). Don’t think its a bug but could be a reasonable change.
If its a problem you can switch to a view that the clipping plane isn’t applied to (i.e top view), the preview will be shown there.
Yes, thats one explanation but not the solution.
In my understanding it is a bug. If a Clipping plane is on “included e.g. Object A”. New Curves or other Object B should be completly visible. And not partly visible.
Its impossible to activate control points of already existing objects that shouldnt be affected by the clipping plane.
Please let someone from McNeel take a look at the problem
@Japhy do you know about this?
I would say its expected behavior rather than a bug, but I could be wrong…
I believe I just fixed this a week or so ago. If you aren’t on the 8.13 release candidate, I would try that first.
Here are details on getting the release candidate.
Silly me! Normaly i check updates before i write a comment, somhow candidate was deactivated. Perfect its solved already
I have to reactivate the topic, now the smart track is not working on the same behavior as described above @stevebaer
This is my setup and i need smart track
My clippingplane is there to only cut the meshmodel.
and i would like to draw above it, for a floorplan.
Hi -
Can you provide more details about what it is that is not working in this set-up? I tried drawing a polyline above a mesh that is clipped, and SmartTrack appeared to work as expected…
-wim
Here @wim ,
First it doesnt track
once i move the clippingplane above the cplane it works again,
but i like to clip my mesh. in order to track the walls.
Any news here? @wim
Its driving me nuts. I need that smart track while working with Clippingplane and Pointclouds.
Please, some news?
Do you need other information?
I just need some sign of life.
Hi mi -
We’ve had the issue on the list for a while as RH-83282, but as the SmartTrack behavior was only mentioned as a comment in that report, I’ve now created a separate report:
→ RH-85573 Display: SmartTrack Not Visible in Clipped View
-wim
Thanks a lot for tracking it!
It would ease up my workflow
