This is a file with meshes (MeshBoxes with 1 face per dimension), then included in a block definition. Once the block is created, this happens (left: original geometries, right: block instance)
After clicking ok things look fine again, but if I select the block the display misbehaves again (as per first image).
Here’s the file with my geometries: bug.3dm (75.8 KB)
And here’s my System Info: SystemInfo.txt (2.9 KB)
The bug occurred while teaching a class, and only some students experienced it, apparently independently from their system configuration (Win, Mac, video card).
EDIT (addendum): I’ve saved the same file as Rhino 7 version and the bug does not present itself in Rhino 7 (even with Enscape enabled and loaded). bug_R7.3dm (74.7 KB)
I made further tests, the issue seems to appear in Rhino 8 with mesh-only blocks, no matter the source:
. if any other geometry type is included in the block, the issue is not present
. if I import blocks containing only mesh geometries made with Rhino 7 the issue appears
Again, the issue is not present in Rhino 7 (exporting or even copy-pasting problematic blocks from Rhino 8 to Rhino 7)
Hi Alessio -
It looks like we had something similar on the list, and that issue was fixed for Rhino 8.12 → RH-81019 Display: Some objects loose their surface shading when added to a block
The only thing that is not the same as what you are reporting is that this looked easily reproducible and visible to all users.
At any rate, could you try the latest 8.12 release candidate and see if that fixes this for you? If all goes well, 8.12 will be the official SR tomorrow…
