My Appearance setting is Auto. I was using Rhino 8 for Mac in Light mode when my system automatically shifted to Dark mode (based on ambient lighting conditions). Unfortunately, it looks like the background color for Layer identifiers doesn’t get the message. See attached partial screen snap. Manually switching between Light and Dark appears to work.
I can’t reproduce this issue on Sonoma, what version of MacOS are you using?
I am running Rhino Version 8 (8.1.23325.13002, 2023-11-21) on Sonoma 14.1.1 on a Studio Display external monitor connected to a MacBook Pro.
The same thing has happened two days in a row now.
I tried to reproduce it by setting customizing “Night Shift Schedule” in MacOS Settings > Displays > Night Shift but still can’t reproduce this.
I also tried setting the start time to 1 minute after current time and wait but it’s working as expected.
I don’t have an external monitor connected though, I’ll ask someone else to try.
I logged a bug here https://mcneel.myjetbrains.com/youtrack/issue/RH-78700/Auto-light-dark-mode-transition
Can you try updating to 8.2 and see if that fixes your issue?
8.2 fixes the issue. Thanks for your help.
Hi Terry -
From RH-78700, it doesn’t look like anyone is able to reproduce this behavior here. Do you know of any specific steps to take?

The way it always showed up was I would be actively working in Rhino when macOS would decide it was time to switch from Light mode to Dark.
However, I just updated to macOS 14.2.1 and the problem appears to be solved.
This on-again off-again problem appears to be off again.
There is another aspect to this. The color shown for the Default Material becomes black when this transition happens even though the Default is the standard white. Exiting Rhino 8 and restarting did not fix this.
Hello, this is still happening for me. Happens on auto mode after transition. Re-starting the app restores the background.

I have an external monitor attached to my M3 Max MacBookPro
Second that, same issue here on Version 8 (8.12.24282.07002, 2024-10-08) on MacOS Sonoma 14.6.1 (23G93) - Mac Pro 2023 M2 Max
