Bongo 3 questions

I have a very old Bongo 1 license that I basically never used - I installed it when I got it and then gave up on it because I misunderstood what it could do.

Question #1: is there a rough estimate when version 3 would be released? I’m not looking for a release date answer, but something along the lines of “in a few months”, “~half a year” or “well over half a year”.

Question #2: will it be possible to get upgrade pricing going from v1 → v3? Or will upgrade pricing be available only from v2 → v3?

I’m considering upgrading my license now, but I’m a hobby user (making background scenes for free games (if they ever get completed  ); I’m not making any money with Rhino) so I’d like to optimize what I pay for Bongo as much as possible.

I’m aware that Blender has animation tools (supposedly more advanced than Bongo), but I use Rhino because it somehow felt natural to use from the beginning and Blender just doesn’t work for me the same way.

Answer #1:
There’s unfortunately no estimation when it will be released.

Answer #2:
We don’t know what the pricing will be.

Thank you for the response.

Marika - Hi !

It’s been awhile ; I hope this finds you well !

I had the same question about timing, as a Client I do some Concept Design Modeling for, expressed some interest in the animating capability I’d mentioned to them awhile back, and I thought I’d check in.

I DO have some interest in certain capabilities that I’m guessing (:crossed_fingers:) are being addressed in Bo-3 (:crossed_fingers:?), so I MIGHT be interested in exploring
Bo-WIP-3 !

1. What are the Rhino version and any other important requirements ?

Like the person who started this thread, I COULD go to Blender, but I’ve tried that and find it unsuitable for my purposes - learning-curve requirement issues - Bo-2 is just simpler and more straightforward, and I do my MODELING in RH-6. SO - I plan to dust off my Bo-2 and give it a go :+1:!

2. How would I run Bo-WIP-3 alongside my installed Bo-2 ?

My version-check tells me I have the latest update -

Service releases for Bongo 2.0.

You have build 12-Feb-2019.

You have the newest version.

Thanks !

  1. Bongo 3 works with Windows Rhino 8 (and the Rhino WIP), so it has the same System requirements.
  2. After installing Bongo 3 WIP, you can switch between Bongo 2 and 3 WIP with the BongoVersionSwitch.exe. The exe file is located in C:\Program Files\Bongo 3.0 (64-bit)

Thanks, that helps.

So-

  1. Bo-3 is still WIP.
  2. No date yet anticipated for FULL release.
    Ok, all good :+1:.

Just one more quick question-
How do I use Bo-3 WIP with my Bo-2 installed, or do I just have the ability to go back If I find Bo-2 more appropriate to continue with ?

Asked another way-
Do you think Bo-3 WIP is mature enough to move to ?
If so, where can you suggest I look for Download, updated features, and How-2’s - once I’ve pulled the trigger, downloaded and installed it, replacing my Bo-2 ? We used to have a Bongo Landing Page, but I didn’t see that (missed it ?) when I went looking, a few days ago.

Maybe a quick add-on Question:
It’s been awhile, do Id like to review examples to refresh and add to, my recall and understanding, EVEN of Bo-2 , which I used with some STRONG success for my LAST Bongo Client about 4 years ago. Yes there are other Animation options “available”, but I find NONE of them as clear and straightforward as I remember my Bongo being with my Rhino-modeled Assemblies.

THANKS again !!

If you do critical work, you should stick to using Bongo 2.
Bongo 3 WIP is still Work-In-Progress and Work-In-Progress versions are not production ready and may hang or crash. Some changes in the WIP software might also make it so that the models you create today with the WIP might not work in the release version of Bongo 3.
