Animation with Grasshopper / Vray

I don’t think Grasshopper Animations is considered as animation (unless) you setup animation and then using it with you probably can do a motion blur but only limited to Camera movement (not object transformation).

I’m not 100% sure about that, since I have only V-Ray 5

Thanks Tay! well if you have time to do a super simple animation to see if it works that would be awesome! I’m trying my best to dive more into it but my grasshopper knowledge is extremely limited. another example, I’m currently having issues with the render in project component, when I click interactive render it renders the named view i have set correctly, however, when I go to production render i get a output file disabled warning and if I proceed it starts rendering what looks to be the correct camera position but zoomed in which I can’t figure out how to correct. if I then switch back to interactive it then renders the correct view. I’m trying to figure out what controls what with these components lol like if I make a change in the “render” component itself does that override the “render in scene” component? I’m literally going through the components making changes to see if it does what I expect it to do.

Ahh right maybe if they did add it, you wouldn’t be able to test it anyways because you have an earlier version.

Another Issue I found, when using a vray proxy mesh as a block to retain materials I can connect it via extended geometry component and GH processes it just fine and shows the animation however, its not showing up in the render. I can use the proxy mesh component by itself and it will render as a static object but I can’t animate it in that case. Any work around?

I think I can borrow a V6 license from work, I’ll get it installed today and see how to make it work both on the motion blur and the Animated proxies. Are you improving these meshes as vrmesh or vrscene?

I was testing a vrscene for the background and a vrmesh block for the animation object. The reason being was that it was a dense object and I figured saving out as a vrmesh and using the block method I can drop it in and animate it without worring about materials or slowing grass hopper down was my thinking. Technically I can just import it raw, re-texture it and just run the standard geo component, but I think utilizing blocks would be extremely powerful, and again I’m just testing things and learning to see what things work or don’t work within GH. If its a large file or complicated geometry that you want to animate or just render in general, vrmeshes are fantastic as blocks so I wanted to find out if I could do it in GH.

Hi,

Just to let you know GH in Rhino 8 does support blocks (both from Rhino and local to the definition), but currently released V-Ray versions will not render them. Implementing blocks support in GH is under its way.

could you please add this functionality for 7 as well?

there are no blocks in GH for Rhino 7

@Nikolay

there is actually, extended geometry component you can download and works and previews in animation as expected, however, its not visible at render time so if there is way for vray to read it that would be great.

here is the link below the discussion here:

This is a 3rd party plugin.
We can’t support that
