An Early Garden

Somewhat inspired by this topic (thanks OP):

I decided to see if it was possible to get a good Rhino-only false fog effect over a distance of many metres, using only the internal Rhino 8 Cycles render (no Z-buffer effects).

This is reasonably demanding as a task. Normally I render only on my 4070 Super, but in the interests of time, I used the {4070 Super + 4090} combination at 80% full power for both GPUs (MSI Afterburner; I don’t like the idea of 4090 fires :frowning: ). The render took 2 minutes almost exactly for 1500 samples at 1440p. In hindsight, the 4070S would have been just fine, and likely under 10 minutes.

Initially, I kept on applying different colour transforms to see if it improved. However, recently, I have been finding that a good enough render and intial tone setup seems to overcome the need for endless post-render colour transforms/tonemapping. Before I got carried away, I just left it as is.

Distribution of Rhododendron completed by Rhino Nature. Overall, I am satisifed with the result. Obviously, I could do this in bella with considerably better results, but I liked the challenge of seeing if I could push Cycles a little for the fun of it.

I was hopig to get a little more brightness contrast, but it’s hardly noticed here now. I would imagine I could post it back if I really wanted
