A more robust Press Esc to cancel?

Is there a way to make this command more robust? To configure it so it cancels the last command, no matter what?
I’m working on a table that has some perforated metal - so lot’s of geometry.
Trying to trim or split works sometimes, but often the program just hangs.
Then I have to force quit (and often there’s nothing in AutoSave - thank god for Dropbox).
A more aggressive version of this command would be a great help in situations like this.

this seems a concern, here this was discussed slightly for mac also talking about windows but there is not much outcome. i would also wish for esc to be more responsive, instead of chewing up all resources. make rhino multithread capable finally and give power to the esc.
