Making great progress, thanks to advice from here and lots of hours at the computer. I’ve used TextObject to great effect, but now I need to add a US Flag. My intent is to print the flag on/in white resin ‘sinking’ the red stripes and the blue background, print the object and fill the incised areas with dyed resin, epoxy or acrylic paint. The basic question is how to easily turn a jpg or png image into a surface that I can extrude . Of course, I could trace it, but that will take an inordinate amount of time and is a royal PITA. There must be an easier way, but I haven’t discovered it, yet. Example images attached.
Hello - Tracing is the way if you want any kind of accuracy and clean curves - it looks like you need to make one curve for the stripes and array it…

I was afraid of that, but it didn’t hurt to ask.
I found “Scan2CAD”. It worked great, with very little cleanup required.
