Thanks for the comments Akash. The first thing seems not difficult, and could conceivably even be done now by manually distributing some tiny geometry inside the gem. But it would be better to generrate these procedurally. The second would require some original research, since outside of subsurface-scattering, the renderer considers only surfaces. So it seems both of these ideas can be put in the category of a different form of subsurface scattering, and I’ll be sure to show the core engine guys your post.
Iabgus, I see Cycles talked about here. Can you explain what that is please?

Hi - Cycles is the render engine that is used in Rhino 6 for the Raytraced display mode and in Rhino 7 for the Raytraced display mode as well as the Rhino renderer. It is the same engine that is also used in Blender and Poser.
