insertEdge at Starpoints

subd s still have some teething problems…/ some potential to get more major:
one of them is _insertEdge at starpoints:

left: in above example, apply _insertEdge along the red edges
middle: options bothsides=yes und style = absolute → not useful at all
right: expected result / my wish

like partial inset

note: _inset already has the correct handling … so my wish is: _insertEdge should behave like this / use the same logic / treat those cases more like a “partial inset”.

adding some additional sacrificial faces (left)
apply _inset to both groups green / blue (middle)
delete the sacrificial faces (left)

Have you tried bevel?

… will smooth out the initial edges and does not allow bothsides = no / one side.

i took a planar example to illustrate the issue.
the context i would need a proper _insertEdge is setting up typology - without the smoothing effect of bevel.

but for some cases - a nice workaround, thanks.

And _InsertEdge Ring OffsetMode=Absolute?

@theoutside InsertEdge is usually Jussi’s territory, so I put this bug on his list for now. If it comes back to me, I probably won’t fix it in the next 6 months as the development of new features takes priority currently.
