I always felt like managing viewports in Rhino was very cumbersome. If I have to be honest, I’m not even sure what is and isn’t possible. I know, I should do my research and then ask… that’s on me. But you get my point, if I need to search for it… then its already not great. (and I am not saying searching is bad, I don’t expect NURBS to come intuitively, but viewport managing as long as you can use a mouse you should be good to go.
For instance I feel that dragging should be smart enough to automatically give the option to close viewports which are smaller than x
Also I could not find a way to maximize this viewport besides manually dragging both sides: I kept thinking that ‘maximizeViewport’ command would do this, but that was just switching the view to full mode, when I went back the viewport was still not filling the entire interface.
The weirdest part for me is that not just viewport management, but the entire Rhino workspace, has been completely re-engineered and rebuild in 2023, but as a historic restoration of the old stuff, still with a focus on single monitor use.
And when you look a viewport capture presets they still have 400X600 and all that crap from computer history class. No 4K, not 8k, just historic presets
Hi @ShynnSup, if you hold Shift while dragging the viewport title with the left mouse button you can unstick the viewport and move it while keeping it’s size. It should also snap to the borders when moving close the black area in your screenshot.
Hi Clement, I was aware you can move the entire viewport by clicking on its title. I am not following what Shift does, as I can just normally left click on the title and it will move without the need for Shift.
What I meant is that you can’t drag the right side after it has merged with the layers panel.
Hi @ShynnSup, you’re absolutely right. When single click maximize is enabled (it is not by default), you cannot drag anymore without holding Shift. I agree with all your other points, there is still room for improvement.
