What do you expect to see in V7 before it’s ship-ready?

 “it mostly matter of getting all of UI working.”
Are we supposed to LoL at the above statement ? The whole material UI and management in Rhino is rudimental at best. Really primitive, ugly and almost useless. Same for texturing. The whole Rhino UI is definitely outdated but still usable, the material-texturing-rendering department as a whole is just some kind of junkyard. Pretty messy too.

Are you still talking about Bongo ?
Still playing around that thing ? In the portfolio of less useable toys made by Mcneel in these past decades, Bongo definitely stands out for being a highly required, requested and still a totally useless crap ever made.
The “logic” if we can say any kind of “logic” exists in Bongo is totally messed, confused, probably generated by a twisted mind and, after following a few posts about it, I might have an idea who could be behind it. Simply unbelievable. I think I threw it into the dustbin the same day I’ve got it.

There could be one simple thing you could do, to make things work much better.
I refer to the earlier versions of Maya, when I purchased the license and it was still Alias|Wavefront.
The MEL script allowed you to cut and paste any portion of your work (whatever you did), running in the background, then eventually edit, assign it to an icon and build your own interface with anything needed, inclusing sliders and so far.
A very elegant, smooth and practical way to automate the making of scripts.
You could even automate and parametrize a whole puppet, from the modeling to animating it, a great thing.
Why not doing something like that for GH ?
Not replacing GH. But adding that functionality, recording your actions while modeling, then editing and detailing in GH.
That would be the kind of workflow most of designer would love.

Keep it simple and easy.
Do not follow the twisted minds of some mathnerds. Who never had the chance to put their hands on a real product.

Rhino is still a great little toy, very versatile and useful. Not always accurate enough. Often making you scream and throwing things on the walls or across the room by the frustration of mad filleting and twisted surfaces. Still fast and easy.

Possibly add some more intuitive and controllable surfacing parameters (I know, I’d been asking this for 20 years or more) for tangency and continuity. I mean some interactive gizmo helping in the visual matching the curvature. That would be really useful and much needed.

And yes, some basic motion controls, maybe connected to GH but nor requiring the node editor, in place of that useless Bongo. very simple and easy.
It doesn’t require any rocket science.
Copy the mating/referencing functionality from other apps like Solidworks, some very basic assembly rules. And offer some controls for sliding, rotating, flexing.
Not just othogonal but along axis and following the assigned axis.
Not like in Bongo that - depending on some order of assemply and keyframes, things were spread all over like crazy. A true nightmare.
To make it right, have a look at Bongo, then do the opposite and you will be just fine.

I think it’s more than enough for my current bag of wishes.
Just one more thing: please learn to document the sw, at least a little. Documentation is not poor, just non existent.

Thanks for keeping the little Rhino alive. Help him growing a little more.

Well, none of the above has been made ready yet. So far it’s still current, in a way or another.

That’s what the whole Serengeti group on this forum is for. If you have something to say about RhinoWIP create a thread about it.

So 6 months is too old…?
But two years since last post is OK?

:joy:

I don’t see what’s wrong with adding a response to an old topic, no matter how old, as long as it is relevant. This one could be a new record (6 years!).

And @mary is making a great point…

if you care to see I’m improving the answer there. Can’t say the same for this terrible thread.

I absolutely saw that, but the irony was too good not to comment, even though I didn’t help the discussion at all

Peace and happy quarantining to you all!

It only took one dev. to save your product from becoming completely obsolete and sink.
If it wasn’t for Grasshopper, Rhino would be irrelevant today.

Think of what could be done if you better focused the work of the 99 other fellows…
You know… features and enhancements users have been begging on their knees for, year after year.
Instead of that, we get gradient hatches… Wow.

As a follow-up, here is what I most expected to see (…fifteen years ago) :
-Proper block management
-Interactive 2D layouts (not that Make 2D misery)
-Robust Booleans
-Clean meshing
-Decent chamfers and fillets

I don’t understand you.
If you don’t like the product - leave it. If you do, show some appreaciation.
I don’t whine that my car doesn’t make 60mph in 5 second. If I wanted one that does it I’d have to spend 5 times more money.

That’s because you didn’t read my post carefully.
Rhino sucks, but Grasshopper makes it bearable, and oddly, even worthwile.

My point is that Rhino could be an absolute killer if some old issues were adressed.
It is so depressing to see the list of so-called “enhancements” in V7 because they completely miss the mark.

Funny you mentionned this : I drive a Tesla Model 3 which does that in 4 seconds, and it cost me far less than most fossil fuel cars capable of that performance.
It’s relevant because Tesla chose to innovate instead of relying on tired old tech.

You got it for free?

Technically : yes.
But I think you got my point.

Technically : yes.

So you are spoiled. Try to earn it. Doen’s come easy.

I earned it all right, I assure you.
Amazing car…

One thing I learned in my life as an entrepreneur:
my own hard work tought me respect for other’s people hard work

Exactly.
If you are a successful entrepreneur, you also might have kicked a few slacker butts
