VSR end of Life-

Hi Pascal!
It is possible to know how is matchsurface tool progressing?
Thank you in advance.

Is this because Untrim fails or doesn’t work as well Rhino’s untrim? Or did you miss it was added(quite a while ago)?

I missed it back then I was added in January 2021, only correction: 1 year, 5 months before my post, not ā€œquite a while agoā€, quite a while ago would be 2013, when Fusion was first released. So my point stands.

Rhino Development is very slow, but so it everyone else’s. It must be hard or something

(edit: I still don’t know how to count years so I had to edit this post twice, this is how long CAD development takes!)

Software development is slow. It’s not uncommon, that a single problem keeps one developer busy for a whole week. This is why you need to focus on the truly important features.

Assuming McNeel knows how to prioritize development regarding demand, you could come to
the conclusion that improvements of the traditional surface-modelling tooling is not what the majority of Rhino users really want/need… :man_shrugging:

As it has being said: Probably around 10 people arguing about the importance to replace
VSR (including myself), which is probably nothing against 10 new customers a day, with a complete different use-case in mind.

or months, or a year… or in the case of subd several years.

we always say, if you can do it better and faster than we can, please apply for a job, we are always looking for those unique folks who can.

fwiw, vsr was in development for several years before v1 ever saw the light of day…

For me is enough to know that you have it on your focus to deliver in future versions some features from VSR.

I think that many people even don`t know how they need it

Unfortunately, I’m a Rhino user since v6 and I’ve heard about VSR only in tales and every time I read about that I’m angry that I can`t buy it.

I am angry that I DID buy it but now don’t use it…

Do you do a lot of surfacing in Rhino? Does pure Rhino enough for you? What do you create? You don’t use it because you don`t like it or you don’t need it?

In my case, after watching a whole channel I’ve realised that I would like to have it but I can`t.

Cheers!!!

Hello VSR users!

You surely must have had a virtual mirror, right? It was probably called something different, but either way, could some of you please add your voices to this thread? Probably futile, but still:

Hi all,
I wonder why the Graph curvature tool doesn’t have the option for the number of combs.
I remember that in VSR you could indicate that number in U and V independently.

For example, I use it a lot to understand better what is going on each row of the surface, or refine some rows by putting as many combs as per the degree of the patch.

Maybe it is something easy to implement.
Like this:

Jordi, if you increase the iso curve display number in object properties then you’ll get the equivalent number of graphs.

Thank you, I was not aware about that. It is an strange way of setting that but it works I guess.

Agreed, I asked a few years ago for exactly what you have asked for but Pascal pointed out this ā€˜work-around’.

While the demand for this level of accuracy is no where present in my industry (think measure with micrometer , mark with chalk, cut with axe level  ) I would still welcome this kind of control when building surfaces. @sgreenawalt thanks for posting those examples.

How can you test the plugin? Is that only possible via personal contact request?

last I heard, Kajto is dead.

Then there is no expansion option except for maybe Xnurbs?

I would very much welcome it if the tools for curves and surface control would improve based on the model of Alias. Is there the goals for Rhino 8?

Hallo Martin,

Is this confirmed?

Hi Tobias -

What you see in the Rhino 8 WIP at this point is basically what will be in the release version.
