I would like to design a vase / lampshade like this one here:
what would be the best way to get these panels with grasshopper? I have the basic geometry as a surface.
Do you have a sample file or something I can start with?

A while ago i found this GH example on the Grasshopper forum.
It is made by Danny Boyes. Example what you can do with it:
It should bring you in the right direction I think

This one twists in 1 direction. As I see in your picture. It twists in 2 directions.
