i was trying to have a screwlike locking mechanism similar to the following, but I was unable to make it slide and twist because twist isn’t constant and can’t find a setting that makes it constant.
as you can see below, if i spin it an extreme amount, you can see the amount of twist near the ends are not as extreme as the twist in the middle.
I also would like to know if there is a way to do variable twisting based on something else if the fix is possible.
Do you have the Twist option Infinite=Yes?
Twist | Rhino 3-D modeling (mcneel.com)
Infinite
Yes
The deformation is constant throughout the object, even if the axis is shorter than the object.
No
The twisting is not constant throughout the object. The deformation takes place only the length of the axis. The length of the axis is important. If the axis is shorter than the object, the twist applies only to that part of the object. In addition, the twist blends in and out at the ends of the axis.
Infinite=Yes (left); Infinite=No (right).
If setting Infinite=Yes does not solve it, then post a .3dm file with the original untwisted geometry and the twist axis.
oh no, i didn’t check that, thank you. I thought infinite had to do with something else.
do you know how infinite no is deformed? is there a formula for that, and a use for that outside of artistic purposes?
