Hi @User1336,
Welcome to the forum.
Your split fails because the surface remains attached elsewhere. For split to work it has to completely separate the surface into two or more parts.
In addition to your split in red, you could do one more split curve as shown in green, or two more curves, as shown in orange. Or any other combination that results in complete separation.
